Here Comes the Sun

Lately I've been feeling down like I don't have any friends. I think this means I'm trying to have a pity party and I'm obviously not doing enough to get out there and see friends I do have and meet new people. As my friends go off and get married, I need to make sure I'm still actively participating in other activities with other single people. I have to say, I'm totally stoked for the YSA Summit where they have a big weekend with hundreds and hundreds of young single adults around the valley that come up to the U's Institute for seminars, carnivals, dances, concerts, food, and tons of fun. I just can't wait. I need to put myself out there more to meet people up there this year. That's my goal. Whether I try making friends with girls or guys. And I'm also gonna drag my little sister Lizzie because she's having a difficult time adjusting from Young Womens to YSA. It's always weird cuz you feel too old for YW but too young for YSA. I think jumping in and taking the plunge is easier because you get involved and start to know the other people more quickly. So I'm hoping the Summit will be her plunge into YSA.

So that's just my current down side of life so far. The upside is I got Castle Season 1 in the mail today along with the boxed set of the Mistborn series, so my favorite tv show and my favorite books all in one day! I'm pretty excited for when I have time to check them out. Mom and I have almost finished updating the bathroom (minus tiling the counter and a new fan). I love the color we picked, dad even likes it and it's a deep rosy pink color with black accents on the cabinets and mirrors. Also I've been reading some awesome books lately. Right now I'm reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies which I'm finding really hilarious and I originally got it to give to Lizzie for her birthday, but I don't know if I can part with it. And I've been drawing all weekend. I haven't sat down and really drawn in a long time. I'm taking Lizzie to see the midnight showing of Eclipse for her birthday and so we decided to be nerdier than usual and make shirts for the event. And rather than taking a picture off the internet and slapping it on a shirt (which is illegal of course) I decided we should draw our own picture for it. So Lizzie and I have been having fun with pencils, charcoal, oil pastels, pastels, and our favorite kneaded rubber erasers.

Here's a picture of Alice Cullen I drew for my shirt. It's in oil pastels, and it looks much better in person.
And here is Lizzie's wolf for Jacob Black done in charcoal.
Pretty neat huh? It makes me want to go draw some more. :)

  2. Natalie, you goose!

I know I'm an old uncle type person, and really groovy (which is to say, out of it! LOL) but I hope you can remember I am a friend! But I totally hear what you are saying here... it is about you finding that special one! He is out there! Don't stress! You are too cool as a person for there not to be someone that will be a good canvas for all the pastels that you have to offer!

As to your taste in books and movies... Well, I'm back to groovy again, which is to say I haven't seen most of them, and am not sure if they are down MY line! Pride and Predjudice... now that's some undertaking!

By the way, your art is great! So is Elisabeth's! I have one of her dragons hanging in my office you know!

Bibliophile - Book Lover - That's me!

I absolutely love to read. My whole family is a bunch of readers and every one of us has our own collection of books. (Mine covers my ledge stretching along my 9 foot wall... and I ran out of room for them.) When I was younger (maybe 10) I found out my Grandma Walker kept track of every book she read in a journal and wrote it down, so I began my own book journal. So since 1997-ish I've written down each book's title, author, summary, date finished, how much I like it, and number of pages. I like to keep track of how many pages I've read in a year and the most I've ever gotten was just over 11,000 pages. This year I'm up to about 7,000 which is normal for me at this point. Seeing how I'm obsessed with books I thought I'd mention some of my favorites and favorite authors if you're ever looking for something to read since I have a few people who ask me for reading suggestions as it is. My new found favorite author is Brandon Sanderson. If you haven't he...

Best View in Town

Hiking has really had its benefits this summer. I've really enjoyed taking along m y camera, as you can tell. Even if I just used my phone's camera. These pictures are from two separate hikes, Ensign Peak and Grandeur Peak. What's great about both of these hikes is that once you've climbed the top they offer an amazing view of the valley. Many people know about Ensign Peak, but what I love about Grandeur Peak is the absolute brilliance of the view. It's from a much higher vantage point and offers a broader view of the Salt Lake Valley. Pictures can't do it justice. I've hiked it before and stayed up there while it got dark and watched fireworks for the fourth of July and I've never seen anything so beautiful to compare to it. Ensign Peak had an amazing view the night we hiked it. It was growing dark as we sat at the top and the thunder clouds rolling in added a great element to the pictures we took and made the night seem darker than it normally would h...

Fall is in the Air

Our first year of adventures in the married life has been pretty great. COVID actually opened up a lot of travel opportunities we couldn't have afforded otherwise. After going to Disney World earlier in the year, I never imagined that I would also be able to visit Disneyland in the fall, let alone twice! Disneyland To start, Disneyland with my mom, Lizzie and my niece and nephew in September. This was their first time (technically my niece's second but she was an infant the first time.) And doing Disneyland with kids is just magical. Yes, they get tired and grumpy and have no patience when they're hungry but they also believe everything they see. That kind of magic is just great to witness. We walked into the park and Micky and Minnie were at the train station to greet everyone coming in. My nephew was just in awe as my niece was so excited to see Minnie and Mickey in real life. They also quickly figured out that after waiting in a line, a really cool ride was at the end of...
