Adventure is Out There!

This summer has been awesome. And by awesome I also mean busy. I'll go backwards for you to show what I've been up to so far.

Days of 47 Pops Concert
After 3 concerts, 8 hours worth of rehearsals which equaled roughly 14 total hours of playing my violin in one week my fingers needed amputating. We really played fantastically well so all that work was worth it! The best part was shaking the composer Crawford Gates' hand after both performances. And on the second night President Russell M. Nelson was in the audience, so I've played for an apostle! This was also the first concert my boyfriend has attended and so I thought it was pretty neat he could see me for the first time playing in the amazing Abravanel Hall. I hope this doesn't mean he'll think I'm a professional... I don't practice enough!

Millcreek Canyon for the 4th of July
We got about half the family to come up plus my boyfriend to play games, eat food and just relax in the canyon. We slaughtered poor Matthew playing Boggle and it's really hard to convince Lizzie her made up words are fake without internet to prove it! So Mom started to make up words she knew Lizzie would do so that she had to cross them off! hahaha. The rest of the time was pretty chill. Well, we tried to chill. The dogs were so excited they couldn't contain themselves and then they passed out from exhaustion when we got home.

Hiking Bell Canyon
I saw a wild rabbit and that really made my day on that hike. I'll name him Thumper. Mom and I only did half the trail, but we watched the sunset when we were coming down and that was breathtakingly beautiful.

Payson Temple Open House
This temple was so beautiful that I was extremely grateful I got to walk through it twice before it was dedicated. I've decided it's the prettiest of all the newer temples I've visited. The first time I walked through with Matthew (the boyfriend) and the second time was with my parents and Matthew. It's so not fair since he lives down the street from the temple, Matthew saw it a total of 13 times. Also this is the location where we said I love you for the first time. - You may now say, "Awwww!" You're welcome.

Toby
My family got another dog from my Aunt after they lost his companion. He's an English Bull Dog called Toby - but we affectionately call him Tubby. He's a sweet old guy. If I could get him to stop peeing on my rug I'd like him even more... *smash head on desk*
Art Stuff

My aunt asked me to draw a picture for her as a gift- my first commission! This is roughly what it looks like. The picture I had to go off of was very bad quality and so I was doing my best to interpret it into something that conveyed the adorableness. And now I have been commissioned again just 1 day after getting this complete. Then my coworker made a request for a drawing too after she saw this. I also need to still finish the jaguar picture I started last year.

On top of that, I did my first acrylic painting of a tree (sorry, no picture) and started another painting of a rose. I've never painted before this so it's been really exciting to try! We had a painting night at Matthew's house with his family and they teased me about kicking me out because I brought fancy brushes to paint with. Overall it was a lot of fun, and his sister kept asking me for tips on her tree which ended up looking pretty good. So I guess this is my artistic summer since I seem to be doing that the most in my spare time.

Bibliophile - Book Lover - That's me!

I absolutely love to read. My whole family is a bunch of readers and every one of us has our own collection of books. (Mine covers my ledge stretching along my 9 foot wall... and I ran out of room for them.) When I was younger (maybe 10) I found out my Grandma Walker kept track of every book she read in a journal and wrote it down, so I began my own book journal. So since 1997-ish I've written down each book's title, author, summary, date finished, how much I like it, and number of pages. I like to keep track of how many pages I've read in a year and the most I've ever gotten was just over 11,000 pages. This year I'm up to about 7,000 which is normal for me at this point. Seeing how I'm obsessed with books I thought I'd mention some of my favorites and favorite authors if you're ever looking for something to read since I have a few people who ask me for reading suggestions as it is. My new found favorite author is Brandon Sanderson. If you haven't he...

Best View in Town

Hiking has really had its benefits this summer. I've really enjoyed taking along m y camera, as you can tell. Even if I just used my phone's camera. These pictures are from two separate hikes, Ensign Peak and Grandeur Peak. What's great about both of these hikes is that once you've climbed the top they offer an amazing view of the valley. Many people know about Ensign Peak, but what I love about Grandeur Peak is the absolute brilliance of the view. It's from a much higher vantage point and offers a broader view of the Salt Lake Valley. Pictures can't do it justice. I've hiked it before and stayed up there while it got dark and watched fireworks for the fourth of July and I've never seen anything so beautiful to compare to it. Ensign Peak had an amazing view the night we hiked it. It was growing dark as we sat at the top and the thunder clouds rolling in added a great element to the pictures we took and made the night seem darker than it normally would h...

Fall is in the Air

Our first year of adventures in the married life has been pretty great. COVID actually opened up a lot of travel opportunities we couldn't have afforded otherwise. After going to Disney World earlier in the year, I never imagined that I would also be able to visit Disneyland in the fall, let alone twice! Disneyland To start, Disneyland with my mom, Lizzie and my niece and nephew in September. This was their first time (technically my niece's second but she was an infant the first time.) And doing Disneyland with kids is just magical. Yes, they get tired and grumpy and have no patience when they're hungry but they also believe everything they see. That kind of magic is just great to witness. We walked into the park and Micky and Minnie were at the train station to greet everyone coming in. My nephew was just in awe as my niece was so excited to see Minnie and Mickey in real life. They also quickly figured out that after waiting in a line, a really cool ride was at the end of...
